I went online to read his comments/interviews. So I did something a Harry Potter reader should have learned not to do.
TERRY GOODKIND SWORD OF TRUTH SERIES QUERY SERIES
I didn't understand how anyone could like this series enough to rec it to me. Of course, this is but one dimension of the retardation that Goodkind has in his novels. His characters contradict themselves constantly. The rest of his novels reek of radical left and right wing ideas - apparently his characters can't decide whether or not they prefer communism or fascism (edit: it leans towards fascism in the late books). The worst part is that Goodkind appears to fully believe that Richard is doing the right thing. Yet, he is never portrayed as anything other than right. He also kills peaceful protesters because. There is also a scene in the books where Richard pretty much justifies gang-rape because it is part a culture's customs, and therefore must be protected. Because this is the only moral thing to do. Richard's latest battle tactics are simple - his army of D'Harans is too small to take on the huge enemy force, so instead he orders them to go to the enemy homeland and slaughter all the civilians, removing the ears of anyone who preaches the enemy faith. However, anyone with half a brain notices that Richard's actions are immoral at best. Furthermore, he writes in such a way as to make his protagonist (Richard) to always be right.
TERRY GOODKIND SWORD OF TRUTH SERIES QUERY FULL
I found it be a terrible fantasy series, full of cliches and unlikable, stereotypical characters.

Nothing like Martin or Erikson's pull on me or even Bakker.A friend recommended this series to me, so I read it. But like I said it stopped grabbing me around book 7 or so. The series was innovative in a way with a world with some decent depth. I can't even seem to get into the 10th which is a shame since I heard it was an improvement. It began to drag after a while and I found myself skimming through the last two books or so. Now in regards to the series the OP really meant to bring into question I felt the Wheel of Time was an okay series. I usually finish any series I start but I lost interest in the world and character portrayed. The first book was okay enough and I pushed through a few more till I simply couldn't take much more. anyway now that I am done with the sarcasm I was basically like another poster.

We all have those dreams of chickens that are possessed and out to kill us. You all know when you read that the understanding came in mind that you have just picked up the best piece of literature you have read in quite some time. Who didn't fall in love with the Evil Chicken. Most of you just don't know what you're talking about. If Jordan had tightened down WoT to seven or eight books, it would have been awesome. Goodkind makes Jordan look like a literary masterpiece. Guy with magic sword, magic-endowed girlfriend/wife, wizard for a grandfather, becomes a wizard (a War wizard, no less) himself, does a bunch of magical things, defeats an evil wizard (his father), defeats major magic obstacles, rides a dragon, casts spells, trains at a school for wizards filled with priestesses who use magic, and some bad ones who steal magical abilities from the wizard students.

He says he doesn't write fantasy, but let's see:

His arrogance was pretty insufferable too. I gave up at Naked Empire, and am ashamed that I lasted that long. Sloppy plotting, non-existent character growth, and straw-man evil dudes that any idiot with a club (even a stick) could knock over. Goodkind's Randian philosophy was enough to turn off all but the most ardent fans, but even it could have been forgiven had there been some good writing around it. I had to read an Ayn Rand book once, and it just about killed me to slog my way through it. He had some neat ideas, and some that were pure adolescent sexual fantasy (Mord-Sith, anyone?). Goodkind lost me pretty early on in the series.
